JOHN LONG
Mechanic

Like father like son—John is the father of racer Barrett Greer Long, and comes from the deep end of motorcycle racing's gene pool. John is a true trailblazer in the sport, with a stunning resume of wins and thrilling finishes. He's also one of the few racers to have ridden in the Anglo-American Match Races, the Isle of Man TT, the Suzuka 8 Hours, the Daytona 200, and a Grand Prix.

John started out as a top novice and junior road racer in the early 1970s, and worked his way up to become one of the top stars in the early AMA Superbike Championship series. In 1978 he tied legend Reg Pridmore in the final series standings, but lost the championship on a tiebreaker. Long was also a leading contender in the AMA Battle of the Twins and 250cc Grand Prix classes. When he's not busy tuning son Barret's factory Yamahas, John works in the motorcycle shop his father opened in Miami in the 1930s.
